Oklahoma Legislative Roundup
As you may have read in our earlier post, SB 1574 will DOUBLE the Oversize/Overweight Permit Fees, the Oklahoma Trucking Association worked tirelessly to encourage our legislature to consider the impact that the new permit fees would have on our businesses in Oklahoma. The Senate unfortunately also passed SB 1574, ending this session with a defeat, but overall a successful session. The Senate voting record for SB 1574 can be found here (the House voting record can be found here).
The OTA would like to thank House Minority Leader Rep. Danny Morgan (D - Dist. 32) for working so hard in trying to defeat SB 1574. We'd also like to thank Rep. Colby Swartz (R - Dist. 43), Rep. T.W. Shannon (R - Dist. 62) and Rep. Mike Thompson (R-100) who all stayed with their "nay" votes after being pressured by their party and the Speaker of the House, Rep. Chris Benge (R - Dist. 68), to change their votes. The trucking industry in Oklahoma is lucky to have these legislators on their side.
We would like to thank all of our members for their continued support of our efforts at the State Capitol. The OTA fights for the best interests of the trucking industry and without our membership we would not be able to continue our efforts. If you are interested in becoming a member of the OTA or donating to the OTA's 149 Club or PAC, please contact the OTA office at (405) 525-9488.
