The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) met Dec. 7 through 9 to “provide advice and recommendations on the hours-of-service (HOS) requirements.” ATA’s Vice President for Safety, Security & Operations, Dave Osiecki, is a member of the MCSAC and participated in these discussions.
The Committee generated ideas on a number of issues for FMCSA to consider as part of its upcoming HOS rulemaking, including the need for the agency to consider new research on the sleeper berth issue. At the meeting, FMCSA announced that it will hold three separate HOS-related public listening sessions in different parts of the country in January of 2010. ATA will provide more information on these public listening sessions as it becomes available.
