ATA filed formal comments on Aug. 28regarding the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s planned Rulemaking and Research Priority activities for 2009 to 2011. Most of the planned tasks involved light vehicles, since these vehicles are most often involved in accidents because of the vehicle population. However, ATA recognizes that safety technologies developed for light vehicles can later be transferable to heavy vehicles. ATA also commented that the items outlined for heavy vehicles were in line with its safety agenda and that the agency should consider adding Class 7 and 8 cabs to their crashworthiness agenda.
